University of Arkansas School of Art Summer Arts Workshop | June 10-17 2023
We are excited that your student is interested in attending the University of Arkansas School of Art's Summer Workshop this June 10th-17th, 2023! We are excited to offer our fourth annual Workshop Week this summer. Students joining us will move in to their dormitory on campus on the afternoon of Saturday, June 10th and depart the morning/early afternoon of Saturday, June 17th.
Students will learn more about applying to colleges, scholarships, careers, and also developing their skillsets in studio art and their art practice. The works created during the workshop week will be featured in an exhibition at the end of the week and documented. Students will also meet with various organizations and offices on campus, as well as arts organizations in Northwest Arkansas, expanding their networks and knowledge about being an artist and the opportunities here at the UA School of Art.
The deadline to apply for this year's in-person workshop week is March 20th, by 11:59pm. There are 100 spots available in the workshop. We will have a waitlist once those 100 spots are taken.
On Monday, April 3rd, students and their family contacts will receive an email with additional information and an itinerary. All online paperwork must be returned to Donna Jones at the School of Art no later than Friday, April 28th to secure the student's spot in the workshop week. This will help us better prepare our sessions and for materials and safety procedures to be put in place for each student during the in-person week.
There is no cost for students to attend the in-person workshop week, which includes housing and meals. Students may want a little funding for toiletries or conveniences on campus, however. Students will be housed at a residence hall on campus (most likely Adohi Hall). Students may potentially share a room and have a community bathroom. Students will have the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire about their roommate preferences as well. We will put all safety precautions in place as they relate to Covid-19, which could mean requiring masks, testing students at the Pat Walker Health Center on campus, and we also practice social distancing in the studios, as well as other safety procedures.
Studio courses will take place within School of Art facilities and we'll also include field trips to arts events and organizations in the NWA area. Some activities will include physical movement such as walking around campus, walking through facilities, and others may include mobile transport by chartered bus.
